SIOUX FALLS – Bernard Duffy, who starred for Fort Pierre High School in the 1940’s, is among the 14 former players in the 2022 class of the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Duffy graduated from Fort Pierre in 1947 after starring for three seasons, leading Fort Pierre to a 64-7 record and the school’s first two district championships. Duffy was among the earliest players in South Dakota to use the one-handed jump shot effectively. He then was a solid player at Sioux Falls College.

Lisa (Kannegieter) Bahe – Miss Basketball & Gatorade Player of the Year in 1990 at Willow Lake; all-North Central Conference at South Dakota State with 1,130 career points; Pierre girls head coach from 2006-14
Jeff Booher – led Brookings to AA boys state championship in 1987; Naismith Player of the Year in South Dakota in senior year, 1988; all-NCC with 1,018 career points at SDSU
Sherri Brende – played on 1995 and ‘95 girls class B championship teams at Baltic; 1,886 career points; 3-time all-NCC player with 1,444 points for SDSU
Delbert Gillam – set state scoring record with 72 points for Argonne against Canova on February 10, 1953; averaged 25.9 points per game as a senior
Gordie Groos – averaged 20 points and 17 rebounds per game in senior year (1966) at Sisseton; four-year basketball starter at Northern State with 1,002 career points & football NAIA All-American
Laurie (Bruns) Kruse – held Lennox career records in points and rebounds when she graduated in 1987; 1,370 points at SDSU; NCC MVP in 1991, averaging 23.5 points per game
Matt Martin – all-state for three years at Spearfish; 1,602 career points; Gatorade Player of the Year in 2004; led Spartans to 2002 AA championship; four-year starter at Montana
Clyde Olsen – 1,335 career points at Plankinton; scored 84 points in 1956 Class B state tournament, including a record 40 in semifinal game; 90% free throws in senior season (1956)
Tom Rops – led Lennox to 24-0 record and Class A championship in 1991; Orioles were runner-up in 1992; all-NCC with 1,147 career points at SDSU
Milton Sorensen – scored 2,480 career points after joining varsity at Wakonda in eighth grade; joined U.S. Army after 1953 graduation, later played at Southern State
Wayne Thue – helped Hayti to 47-6 records in junior and senior years; Redbirds were 28-2 in senior season (1960); 1,404 career points at Dakota Wesleyan, three-time all-SDIC
Dawn (Hull) Zahn – averaged 22 points per game in junior and senior years at Sisseton (1991-92); 1,267 career points; played on Class A championship team in 1990; all-NCC and 1,125 career points at SDSU
Harley Zephier Jr. – helped Aberdeen Roncalli to 1975 Class A state championship; three-time all-state player; averaged 28 points per game in junior season at Northwestern Area
