Shortstop Carlos Correa told the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día that he will exercise the opt-out clause in his contract with the Minnesota Twins and become a free agent.
After seven seasons with Houston, including a world championship season in 2017, Correa, unable to find a long-term contract, signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Twins that included multiple opt-outs.
Correa told the newspaper, “I have a good relationship with Minnesota. I am very interested in being able to return. I have been in this business for a long time, and I know that things do not always go the way one wants them to.”
Correa hit .291 for the Twins in 2022 with 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored.
