HURON – Central South Dakota schools captured both Class B team championships Saturday at the SDHSAA Cross Country Championships at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
Potter County won its first Class B girls title, easily defeating Arlington by 36 points. The Battlers had four all-state runners, with Dannika Kaup placing fourth, Jadyn Ahlemeier eighth, Emma Schlachter 12th and Paige Ahlemeier 22nd.
This is the first girls cross country championship for Potter County runners since Hoven won the eighth of its state championships in 1993.
Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis placed third, with a time of 19:25.43.
For the first time since 2014, Philip is the boys Class B champion. The Scotties won by 18 points over Northwestern, and five runners finished in all-state places. Wakely Burns was fourth, with Tukker Boe sixth, Baylor Burns 10th, Trey Larson 13th and Asher Peterson 14th.
Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County placed third.
The Chamberlain girls finished second in Class A, 52 points behind Sioux Falls Christian. 2020 and 2021 champion Kimball/White Lake finished 12th and Miller was 15th. Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock was fifth individually.
Miller’s boys were eighth in Class A, with Chamberlain 14th. The Rustlers’ Pierce Baumberger ran seventh.
