Vehicles used by the Pierre Police Department and the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office are not included in a warning issued by a car dealership and the US government after Takata air bags apparently exploded in three more vehicles, killing the drivers.
The feds and the company formerly known as Fiat Chrysler– now Stellantis– are alerting owners of 2005-2010 Dodge Magnum wagons, Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars and Chrysler 300 sedans to stop driving them.
Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says none of the vehicles in their current fleet are included in this warning.
Hughes County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dustin Drew says their “oldest charger is a 2014 and these recalls were all fixed when they first came out a couple years back.”
South Dakota Highway Patrol spokesman Tony Mangan says none of their vehicles are included in this warning.
Stellantis confirmed the air bag inflators blew apart in two cases, killing two people. The company suspects an inflator rupture in another case that also killed a driver.
