PIERRE – A proposal to separate the girls and boys state wrestling tournaments was made Wednesday at the SDHSAA board of directors meeting.
SDHSAA Assistant Executive Director Randy Soma said that the number of participants in girls wrestling this year was up to 416 in the third year of the sport, up from 284 last year and 125 in 2021.
This change will be voted upon at the annual meeting of athletic directors before a formal proposal would be made to the SDHSAA board. If it is eventually approved, the girls wrestling state tournament would be held the week before the boys tournament.
