HURON – Though Jones County forced turnovers in their state tournament opener, they just couldn’t hit enough shots, and Wolsey-Wessington did.
Wolsey-Wessington held off Jones County Thursday 53-42 in the first round of the SDHSAA Girls Class B Basketball Tournament at the Huron Arena.
In their first state tournament since 2015, Jones County (18-5) forced 20 turnovers and scored 16 points off them, but managed only 26 percent shooting.
Leah Williams paced Wolsey-Wessington (22-2) with 15 points. Mya Boomsma scored 14.
Mallory Valburg led Jones County with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Jolie Dugan scored eight.
