HURON – A quick start for Jones County gave the Coyotes a nice second day at state basketball.
The Coyotes led by 16 at halftime, then held off Sully Buttes Friday 47-38 in the consolation round of the SDHSAA Girls Class B State Basketball Tournament at Huron Arena.
Jadyn Jensen led Jones County (19-5) with 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Mallory Valburg scored 10.
Lydia Hill notched 17 points for Sully Buttes (20-4).
Emma Hunt and Jensen hit three-pointers followed by a Valburg bucket and Hunt free throw for a 9-0 run in the first quarter for Jones County. The Coyotes had runs of 7-0 and 10-1 later in the first half as they took a 26-10 halftime lead. Jones County led by as many as 19 in the second half and Sully Buttes never came closer than the final margin of nine.
