No one was injured and no surrounding structures were damaged late this morning (Oct. 19, 2023) during a fire roughly 15 miles northwest of Fort Pierre in rural Stanley County.
Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department First Captain Dustin Dowling says a poll shed was burning from the inside, out.
Also responding to the scene were the Pierre Rural Volunteer Fire Department, Pierre Rescue, Four Corners Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska-691 (USDA Forest Service’s Fort Pierre Ranger District fire crew), AMR ambulance service and the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, the Pierre and Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Departments are holding a recruitment event Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, from 6-9pm at Pierre Fire Station 1 (215 W. Dakota Avenue). Anyone– male and female– wanting more information about all of the things volunteer firefighters do is welcome to attend.
