RAPID CITY – All four of the top seeds won first round matches Thursday in the SDHSAA AA State Volleyball Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument.
Top seed and defending champion Harrisburg won, as did Sioux Falls Jefferson, Sioux Falls Washington and O’Gorman.
Harrisburg def. Aberdeen Central, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18
Harrisburg (29-0) controlled this match with the help of 14 kills and nine digs by Gabi Zachariasen. Karalynn Leach had nine kills and five aces. Josalyn Samuels registered 35 assists.
Lauryn Burckhard led Aberdeen Central (14-12) with six kills. Ashley Wanger and Kenadi Withers had five kills each.
O’Gorman def. Watertown, 25-16, 25-12, 25-22
O’Gorman (19-10) topped Watertown for the second time this season with a steady attack. Keira McManus had 10 kills and three blocks for the Knights. Makenzie Walsh had eight kills and one and a half blocks. Tyla Mauney had 23 digs. Kyra Hermanson had 28 assists.
Emery Thury led Watertown (25-7) with nine kills.
Sioux Falls Jefferson def. Brandon Valley, 25-21, 25-21, 25-11
Jefferson (23-2) used balanced scoring in the sweep. Emory Brosnahan had nine kills for the Cavaliers. Elizabeth Spah tallied eight. Isabella Simmons, Ella Kvernmo and Mya Hejl each had seven. Presly Pastian notched 32 assists.
Abby Gruber and Jersie Melcher scored six kills each for Brandon Valley (15-14).
Sioux Falls Washington def. Sioux Falls Lincoln, 25-13, 25-14, 20-25, 25-18
Though Washington (27-3) was pushed to a fourth set, they still had control for most of the match. Kaelyn Snoozy had 18 kills for the Warriors, with Cate Legel scoring 16.
Linnea Nesheim had 12 kills, two aces, six digs and two blocks for Lincoln (14-11).
