The South Dakota Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission has approved the replacement of a nearly 200-foot long fence near the Dolly Reed Building along Capitol Avenue in Pierre.
State Engineer Stacey Watters says a section of the fence has been damaged.
Watters says they’d like to replace the current fence with something similar to, but shorter than, what’s around the Governor’s mansion.
Commission member Pierre Mayor Steve Harding was concerned about having such a low fence with pointed bars– or finials– on top.
Watters says the fence will be powder coated and not painted to avoid any possible issues with paint flaking.
