The Capital Area Counseling Service Board of Directors has selected Kristi Livermont to be their new Chief Executive Officer.
Livermont comes to CACS with leadership experience from working as an Administrator at the Avera Missouri River Health Center in Gettysburg and Vice President of Facilities for Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. She received her Masters of Business Administration in Health Administration from the University of Colorado Denver.
Livermont will begin the new role Aug. 1, 2024. She will replace Jennifer Gray, who is retiring June 30, 2024, after 22 years with the agency.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Leon Schochenmaier said they knew replacing Jennifer Gray was going to be a challenging task. He says Livermont impressed the Board with her knowledge, work ethic, drive and ambition and she will continue CACS’s growth and impact.
CACS has been operating as a community mental health center since 1968 and is a leading mental health and addiction service provider in the area. CACS serves people in Hughes, Stanley, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, Buffalo, Hyde, Sully and Potter counties.
CACS’s mission is to provide exceptional and effective care to individuals and families in central South Dakota by empowering those we serve, focusing on strengths, and promoting wellness within our communities. The services provided include outpatient mental health counseling and substance use treatment, adolescent and adult clinical support services, Therapeutic Foster Care services, and psychiatric services.

The Capital Area Counseling Services Board of Directors has begun the search for its next CEO.
Current CEO Jennifer Gray will step down at the end of June (June 30, 2024) after 22 years with the community mental health center.
During her tenure, Gray has served in various capacities including therapist, clinical director, and Chief Operating Officer, before assuming the position of CEO.
Board Chairman Leon Schochenmaier says Gray’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping Capital Area Counseling Services into the respected organization it is today. He says her passion for mental health advocacy and tireless efforts to improve access to quality care have left a mark on our community.
Schochenmaier says in its search for a qualified candidate to succeed Gray as CEO, the Board of Directors is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the organization’s mission of providing accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based mental health services to our community.
