A high-speed chase in Brookings County leads to a slew of charges for a 25-year old Sioux Falls man.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to pull over a 2020 Ford Mustang GT traveling on Highway 30 near 477th Avenue shortly after 10:30 p.m. on June 8, 2026. The car took off and successfully eluded the deputy.
The sheriff’s office says about six minutes later, another deputy encountered that same vehicle and radar showed it travelling more than 140 mph. The second deputy followed the vehicle, witnessed it run a stoplight at 471st Avenue and Highway 14, and then finally come to a halt on Highway 14 near the intersection of Stadium Road — north of SDSU.
The sheriff’s office said deputies then arrested 25-year old Christian Hofer of Sioux Falls who told them he stopped because he was running out of gas. Hofer was arrested on numerous traffic violations, drug charges and a weapons violation. He appeared in court June 10 and his bond was set at $10 thousand cash bond. He is being held in the Brookings County Detention Center and is next due in court on June 15.
Both the Brookings Police Department and the SDSU Police Department also responded.
