JANUARY 24, 2023:
The Pierre Economic Development Corporation has renewed its commitment for a third year to provide scholarships for students taking Dakota Wesleyan University’s Learn & Earn program starting in August (2023).
Board chairman Damon Wheelhouse says they approved offering $500 scholarships to the first 10 students who enroll in the program based at Capital City Campus in Pierre. He says PEDCO has always worked closely with area businesses and industries to help them find qualified employees, so assisting students in the Learn & Earn program is a natural fit.
The program began in 2021 with five students from the Pierre and Fort Pierre area completing the 18-month program in December (2022). The second cohort is currently halfway through the program. Jessica Carr is the DWU Learn & Earn Coordinator.
