RAPID CITY – Tia Hemiller has been named as the new girls basketball head coach at Rapid City Central High School.
Hemiller had been an assistant coach for her alma mater, Watertown, this past season. The Arrows were 12-12 and made the AA state tournament for the first time since 2009. She also has been an assistant for Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
After being a first-team all-state player for Watertown, Hemiller played for four seasons at the University of South Dakota and was part of the Coyotes’ 2016 WNIT championship team. She tied the school record for games played at 135 and was named second-team All-Summit League in 2016.
Hemiller replaces Josh Mach, who stepped down after only 10 games this past season. Assistant coach Jacqee Schaefer served as interim head coach for the rest of the season for the Cobblers, who were 6-15 and lost in the SoDak 16 to O’Gorman.
