FORT MYERS, FL – Joe Ryan pitched well and the Twins’ bats hit for a big inning Monday in Minnesota’s 8-4 spring win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Hammond Stadium.
Ryan, set to start the third game of the regular season, was limited to 47 pitches and went three and a third innings, allowing no runs and three hits while striking out four.
Minor-league infielder Hernan Pérez hit a three-run homer in a five-run second inning for the Twins (13-15-3). Donovan Solano hit a two-run homer in the third. Jose Miranda had three more hits, including two doubles, to raise his spring average to .325.
The Twins’ final spring training game for this season will be on Tuesday against the Pirates in Bradenton, Florida, before the regular season starts Thursday at Kansas City (2:30 PM Thursday, 1060/103.1 KGFX).
