SIOUX FALLS – Augustana defeated Minnesota State twice Saturday at Ronken Field, 8-3 and 16-2, to win the NCAA Division II Baseball Central Regional championship two games to one and advance to the Division II World Series.
In the game the Vikings needed to win to force a deciding game, Tate Meiners drove in four runs, including hitting a two-run home run. Seth Miller pitched a complete game for his 11th win.
Then in the deciding game, Augustana’s offense barreled past Minnesota State with a four-run fourth, a six-run sixth and a four-run eighth. Jack Hines hit a grand slam and drove in six runs for the Vikings.
Augustana (47-15) will play in their first game of the NCAA Division II Championship Sunday in Cary, North Carolina against North Greenville. This will be the Vikings’ second national tournament appearance. The first resulted in the 2018 national championship.
