South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden recently awarded more than $5.8 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to four infrastructure projects, including one at Eagle Butte.
Rhoden said these investments help ensure the communities have the essential infrastructure they need to grow and thrive. He said by supporting water and wastewater improvements, it is strengthening public health, protecting natural resources, and improving quality of life for residents across our state.
Projects include:
- The city of Eagle Butte was awarded $2,020,000 for a water, wastewater, and storm sewer project.
- The city of Springfield was awarded $770,000 for the 11th, Ash, and Oak Street infrastructure project.
- The city of Viborg was awarded $1,020,000 for improvements to its wastewater treatment facility.
- The city of Wessington was awarded $2,020,000 for a wastewater improvements project.
Governor’s Office of Economic Development Commissioner Bill Even said strong infrastructure is foundational to economic development.. He said CDBG investments help communities move critical projects forward and create environments where businesses and families can succeed.
These grants were issued during the October 1, 2025, application round.
The CDBG program provides funding to local governments to complete projects that improve living conditions for low- to moderate-income individuals. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
