Aug. 10, 2026:
A 59 year old Redfield, South Dakota, man died Wednesday (July 29, 2026) in a single-vehicle crash versus train crash near Redfield.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a BNSF train was traveling southbound on the train tracks. At the same time, Paul Ray Whitley, the driver of a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, was traveling westbound on 174th Street. The Jeep struck the train as it entered the intersection. Whitley sustained fatal injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
