BROOKINGS – Defending champion Watertown was shocked by Sioux Falls Roosevelt Thursday in the first round of the SDHSAA AA State Volleyball Tournament at the Swiftel Center. Top seed O’Gorman staved off an upset bid. Huron and Sioux Falls Washington also advanced to the semifinals.

Bergen Reilly led O’Gorman (24-0) with 15 kills, 2 aces, 5 assists & 16 digs, but the Knights were taken to a fifth set by stubborn Harrisburg (14-12). Abby Meister had 13 kills, an ace, an assist and 13 digs for the Tigers.
(4)Sioux Falls Washington 3, (5)Aberdeen Central 1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23)
Three double-digit killers led the Warriors (16-5): Sydni Schetnan with 20, Joslyn Richardson with 15 and Ellie Walker with 12. Brooklyn Kusler had 19 kills, an ace and 10 digs for the Eagles (17-9).
(3)Huron 3, (6)Brandon Valley 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21)
Huron (17-4) swept Brandon Valley, led by 10 kills each from Brooke Schiltz and Libby Rounds & 9 by Brynn Gose. Tenley Buddenhagen had 35 assists for the Tigers. For the Lynx (18-8), Liz Kopp registered 13 kills.
(7)Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3, (2)Watertown 2 (14-25, 26-24, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11)
Roosevelt (11-10), who had lost twice in the regular season to Watertown, earned a fifth-set win over the defending AA champions. Abby Ward and Mya Vandrovec each had 13 kills for the Rough Riders. Emerson Smith led the Arrows (21-5) with 18 kills.
