SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State couldn’t recover from a poor start and sub-par shooting Friday in a 72-59 loss to St. Mary’s in the fifth-place game of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.
SDSU trailed 19-3 in the first seven minutes before trailing by as many as 22. The Jackrabbits cut the Gaels’ led to 12 in the second half, but came no closer.
Alex Ducas led St. Mary’s (2-1) with a career-high 25 points. Noah Friedel led the Jackrabbits (1-2) with 22 points. Alex Arians scored 11.
SDSU shot 36 percent from the floor and made just two-of-12 three-pointers after shooting 56 percent in a Thursday win over Utah State.
