ST. PAUL, MN – After having been an independent team since 1993, the St. Paul Saints will become the triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, an industry source confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
The Twins and Saints both declined to comment.
In November, the Twins ended their affiliation with the Rochester Red Wings, which had been the Twins’ AAA team for nearly 20 years.
Saints’ co-owner Mike Veeck helped start the Northern League in 1993 and the team has been successful ever since, playing first at Midway Stadium before moving to newly-built CHS Field in 2015. CHS Field was used by the Twins as their alternate training site this past season, which was shortened to 60 games due to the pandemic. The stadium is only 11 miles from Target Field, and will be the closest triple-A partnership in baseball.
Also, the Twins will move their double-A franchise from Pensacola, Florida to Wichita, Kansas.
