MITCHELL – This year’s Hoop City Classic has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. It had been scheduled for December 28-30 in Mitchell and Yankton.
Event director Ernie Kuyper said in a text message, “We tried hard to put on what we felt could be a safe event. However, after speaking with numerous medical advisors and our attorneys, it is with deep regret that I inform you we are cancelling the Hoop City Classic this year. Our number one priority is to keep the community and players safe. This decision was not made lightly, and we hope you understand the difficult situation we are in.”
The event would have featured nationally-ranked teams, including Houston High School of Germantown, Tennessee, where former Kernel great Mike Miller is now the head coach.
