SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Falls Washington held Rapid City Stevens to 18 percent field goal shooting Saturday in a 43-26 win in the Class AA Girls state championship game at the Sanford Pentagon.
Washington (20-2) held Stevens to only three first-half field goals to take a 23-7 halftime lead on the way to the Warriors’ seventh state championship and first since 2015. Eden Hullinger scored 13 points.
Stevens (17-6) was led by 11 points, nine rebounds and six steals by Bailee Sobczak.
3rd Place: O’Gorman 53, Brandon Valley 47
O’Gorman (17-7) led by as many as 18 before Brandon Valley moved within three points late. Izzy Moore and Hannah Ronsiek each scored 19 for the Knights.
Hilary Behrens scored 12 for the Lynx (17-7).
5th Place: Harrisburg 65, Mitchell 59
Harrisburg (21-3) held off Mitchell behind 23 points by Emilee Boyer and 14 from Brecli Honner.
Avia Haley hit six three-pointers and scored 25 for the Kernels (16-8).
7th Place: Aberdeen Central 61, Rapid City Central 33
Melanie Jacobs scored 24 and Brooklyn Kusler 20 for Aberdeen Central (19-5).
Josie Hill led Rapid City Central (11-12) with 12 points.
This marked the final game for Aberdeen Central head coach Dawn Seiler, who is stepping down after being named as the school’s athletic director last week. Seiler is the winningest girls head coach in South Dakota history with 629 victories.
