FORT MYERS, FL – Randy Dobnak will have a spot on the Twins’ Opening Day roster next week. Manager Rocco Baldelli confirmed this after Thursday night’s 7-4 spring training win over Boston. Earlier Thursday, the Twins sent Lewis Thorpe to the alternate training site.
Dobnak has been excellent this spring, giving up only one run in 13 and two-thirds innings with 18 strikeouts. An improved slider has helped his strikeout total rise. Baldelli said that Dobnak, who is normally a starter, will begin the season in the bullpen, but could be called on in various roles.
Thorpe has pitched well this spring, with just two runs allowed in seven and two-thirds innings and the Twins do expect him to pitch in the majors this season.
In Thursday’s win over the Red Sox, Byron Buxton hit a three-run double. Josh Donaldson homered and doubled.
