MANHATTAN, KS – Colorado took control of the game late in the first half Wednesday and cruised past South Dakota 84-61 in the men’s basketball season opener for both teams at the Little Apple Classic.
McKinley Wright IV paced Colorado with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Coyote senior Stanley Umude led all scorers with 24 and became the 31st player in USD history to reach 1,000 points. Fellow senior Ty Chisom was the only other Coyote to score in double figures with 12. A.J. Plitzuweit had 9.
South Dakota struggled from the floor, shooting only 33 percent and making only three three-pointers in 20 attempts in a game the Coyotes never led.
USD will meet Drake in Manhattan on Friday.
