SIOUX FALLS – 18th-ranked Gonzaga rallied from an 18-point first-half deficit Monday to defeat South Dakota 54-50 in the final women’s game of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.
The Coyotes (0-2) went without a field goal in an eight-minute stretch spanning the last half of the third quarter and the first half of the fourth quarter, allowing the Bulldogs (1-1) to take the lead.
Jill Townsend led Gonzaga with 20 points, including two three-pointers.
Liv Korngable had 20 points and six assists for South Dakota on six-of-10 shooting and two three-pointers. Hannah Sjerven scored 12 with nine rebounds. Chloe Lamb of Onida was held to just four points with only two field goals.
USD was held to 35 percent shooting and made just three of 18 three-pointers. The Coyotes also were just 13 of 21 on free throws.
South Dakota will play its home opener Sunday against Lipscomb in Vermillion.
