AMES, IA – South Dakota State men’s basketball held on for a 71-68 win over Iowa State Wednesday at Hilton Coliseum after leading by as many as 15 early in the second half.
Noah Friedel hit five three-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the Jackrabbits (2-2). Baylor Scheierman scored 18 with 10 rebounds and knocked down three from beyond the arc. Douglas Wilson had 16 points and nine rebounds. Alex Arians scored 10 with seven assists.
Solomon Young led all scorers with 24 for Iowa State (1-1).
SDSU shot 44 percent for the game after hitting 60 percent in the first half as the Cyclones rallied. ISU pulled to within a point with 22 seconds left, but two free throws by Arians followed by a steal and two free throws by Scheierman sealed the win for the Jackrabbits.
South Dakota State will next play Friday against Bradley in Peoria, Illinois.
