NORMAL, IL – South Dakota forced seven turnovers and surprised Illinois State Saturday 27-20 in the Coyotes’ season-opener.
True freshman quarterback Carson Camp, a native of neighboring Bloomington, Illinois, passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third in becoming the first true freshman to start a season-opener in recorded history of the USD program. Mason Lorber kicked two field goals.
USD’s defense recovered three fumbles and forced four interceptions.
The Coyotes will play 2-0 North Dakota Thursday in Grand Forks.
