WATERTOWN – St. Thomas More eased its way to a win Thursday in the first round of the SDHSAA Girls A Basketball Tournament at the Watertown Civic Arena. Defending champion Winner moved to the semifinals, as did Aberdeen Roncalli and Hamlin.
St. Thomas More 66, McCook Central/Montrose 29
MCM led early before More had a 20-2 run in the second quarter and opened the third quarter with a 12-0 run.
Haleigh Timmer scored 23 points on nine-of-16 shooting for St. Thomas More (22-2). Madisen Koepsell paced McCook Central/Montrose (17-6) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Aberdeen Roncalli 45, Sioux Falls Christian 34
Morgan Fielder led Roncalli (21-2) with 16 points. Lexi Unruh had 16 for Sioux Falls Christian (19-4), but the post player had foul trouble and did not score in the fourth quarter.
Winner 59, Dakota Valley 48
Bella Swedlund scored 28 for Winner (20-2) on 11-of-20 shooting with two three-pointers and six rebounds. Kalla Bertram had 17 and Kelsey Sachtjen scored 11 with four steals.
Rylee Rosenquist tallied 24 for Dakota Valley (16-6).
