(KORN, Mitchell)- A Mitchell woman has been arrested in connection with an apparent hit and run accident west of Mitchell early Wednesday. The accident sent a 25 year old man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to court documents, 32 year old Brittany Ashton Price told investigators she and the victim, who was her boyfriend, went to a residence west of Mitchell to purchase marijuana. She entered the residence and when she returned to the car, the victim wasn’t there. Price says she drove east on Highway 16 early Wednesday morning looking for him. While driving she was texting and calling the victim. A short distance after leaving her friend’s residence Price hit something with her vehicle but didn’t know what she hit. Price stated she pulled over, exited the vehicle and saw nothing. She adjusted her headlight and drove back to town and made no attempt to contact authorities. The victim was found laying in a ditch around eight Wednesday morning and it was determined he’d been hit by a vehicle. He was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators found the victims address and while there noticed a black 2007 Dodge Charger, registered to Price, with damage to the passenger side bumper and a crack in the windshield consistent with a head hitting it. The crack had hair in it as well. Price was found at a friend’s house and taken to the Mitchell Police Department for an interview with a DCI agent.
Price faces charges of Hit and Run Injury Accident, punishable by up to 2 years in prison and or a $4,000 fine as well as Driving without a valid license or permit which is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and or a $500 fine. Bond was set at $4,000 and she have no contact with the victim.
