HURON – Caelyn Valandra-Prue ended her brilliant high school career as South Dakota’s eighth all-time leading girls scorer and led the White River Tigers to their first girls Class B state championship Saturday, 57-37 over previously unbeaten Castlewood at Huron Arena.
Valandra-Prue, who was named to the all-tournament team, led White River (24-1) with 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots. She ended her career with 2,536 points. Maleighya Estes scored 19 with six rebounds and also made the all-tournament team. On Friday, Estes hit the winning shot with two seconds left in a semifinal victory over Corsica-Stickney.
Alayna Benike led three double-figure scorers with 13 points for Castlewood (22-1).
3rd Place: Ethan 59, Corsica-Stickney 48
Hannah Bartscher scored 22 as Ethan (22-4) took third place. Ava Lingemann scored 18 with three three-pointers.
Rachel Gerlach led with 15 for Corsica-Stickney (22-4).
5th Place: Herreid/Selby Area 53, Waverly-South Shore 36
Rachel Fielder poured in 27 points with seven three-pointers for Herreid/Selby Area (22-4). Rylee Rossow scored seven and pulled down 14 rebounds.
For Waverly-South Shore (17-6), Emily Kranz had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
7th Place: Viborg-Hurley 40, Hanson 37
Denae Mach scored in the paint with 1:03 left to snap a tie as Viborg-Hurley (19-6) won seventh place. Sydney Voss scored 16. Nevaeh Ronke added 10 with 14 rebounds.
Mekiah Campbell scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds for Hanson (19-6).
