ROCK RAPIDS, IA – Haleigh Timmer of St. Thomas More and Matthew Mors of Yankton have been named South Dakota Miss and Mr. Basketball for 2020-21 by Hansen Andersen Basketball. Voting is done by the state’s coaches.
Timmer, who has committed to South Dakota State, played for five seasons with the Cavaliers and was part of Class A state championship teams in 2017 and 2018. In her senior year this past season, Timer averaged 20.5 points per game, shooting 60 percent from the floor overall and 52 percent on three-pointers. She also had 84 assists and 67 steals. Timmer is STM’s second all-time leading scorer and rebounder, third in assists in school history and fifth in steals. Her teams won 108 and lost only 13 in five seasons. She was a three-time All-State player.
Mors is the all-time Class AA boys leading scorer and fourth all-time overall with 2,707 points. In his senior year, Mors, who will play at Wisconsin next season, had averages of 24.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.9 blocks as the Bucks had their first 20-win season since the 1970s. Mors played for six seasons for Yankton, including as a seventh- and eighth-grader, and was a five-time All-State selection.
