SIOUX FALLS – Form held Thursday on the first day of the SDHSAA Class AA State Volleyball Championship at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The top four seeds, Sioux Falls Washington, 2020 and 2021 champion O’Gorman, Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Jefferson, all won first-round matches. Jefferson, in its second year as a program, won the school’s tournament debut, defeating Pierre.

Washington, vying for a first state championship since 2001, was aided by 20 kills, six digs and two block assists from Joslyn Richardson. Carlie Beckstrand had six kills and a solo block for the Warriors (26-4). Macie Malchow had 30 set assists.
Stevens (23-13) was led by seven kills and an ace from Isabell Higgins. Carsyn Metter had five kills, an ace and a solo block.

(2)O’Gorman def. (7)Huron, 25-14, 25-19, 25-18
Two-time defending champion O’Gorman (25-4) won with relative ease, led by two-time Player of the Year Bergen Reilly. Reilly, a senior, had 20 kills and an ace for the Knights. Brogan Beck had 12 kills and five block assists.
For Huron (17-10), Heavan Gainey scored 10 kills, three aces and a block assist.
(3)Harrisburg def. (6)Sioux Falls Lincoln, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17
Harrisburg (25-3) rallied from one set down to stop Lincoln, with Gabrielle Zachariasen scoring 18 kills and a block assist. Morrisen Samuels had 17 kills for the Tigers.
Nyareal Kutey tallied 14 kills, a solo block and three block assists for Lincoln (19-11).
