FEBRUARY 17, 2023, UPDATE:
Seven new South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper recruits– including two that will be based out of Pierre– officially graduated today (Feb. 17, 2023) during a ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda.
Trooper Jordan High Elk spoke for the class. He said there was no easing into their training at the law enforcement academy.
High Elk said failures during training helped them learn how to come together as a team.
District 24 Representative and House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre was the featured speaker. He said South Dakota asks a lot from its Highway Patrol troopers.
The training academy takes almost a year to complete, from application through graduation. Some of the new troopers were already certified law enforcement officers and have been working in the field on their own since late last year.
Class 68 recruits and their duty stations are:
-
Trooper Jack Richardson, Pierre
-
Trooper Randall Douvier, Pierre
-
Trooper Parker Bailey, Sioux Falls
-
Trooper Joe Curtin, Lead
-
Trooper Bo Fisher, Rapid City
-
Trooper Jordan High Elk, Plankinton
-
Trooper Ashley Hohn, Watertown
