SIOUX FALLS – The top-two seeds, Sioux Falls Washington and Pierre, won semifinal games Friday in the SDHSAA Class AA Girls State Basketball Tournament at the Sanford Pentagon.
Washington held off a rally by Sioux Falls Jefferson to win 46-43. The Warriors will play Saturday for their second state championship in three years. Pierre stopped Harrisburg 51-47. The Governors will be in a championship game for the first time since 2008 and will try to win their first championship since 1991.
Semifinals
Sioux Falls Washington 46, Sioux Falls Jefferson 43
Washington (20-3) led by 14 in the second quarter before hanging on to win, avenging a first-round loss to Jefferson in the AA state tournament in 2022. Brooklyn Harpe led the Warriors with 14 points. Grace Peterson scored 13.
Jaidyn Dunn scored 17 points with 16 rebounds and six blocks for Jefferson (18-5). Cierra Watkins had 13 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Consolation
Mitchell 48, Watertown 37
Sawyer Stoebner was dominant for the Kernels (10-13). Stoebner scored 24 with 16 rebounds, six assists, four steals and four blocks.
Jaida Young led Watertown (12-11) with 14 points.
O’Gorman 56, Rapid City Stevens 48
Kira Mentele was strong inside for O’Gorman (18-5), scoring 18 with four blocks. Mahli Abdouch scored 15 and Lucy Moore had 12 for the Knights.
Isabell Higgins scored 13 with 16 rebounds for Stevens (14-9).
