Before they adjourned last week (March 9, 2023), South Dakota lawmakers approved a budget bill that included a 7% funding increase for education.
Pierre School District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt was pleased to see the amount recommended come in higher than Governor Kristi Noem allocated in the budget she proposed in December 2022.
Glodt says school districts across the state are working hard to find ways to keep the staff they have and to attract new staff to fill open positions.
Legislators also approved a 7% pay increase for state employees, a 5% raise for health care providers and bringing community-based Medicaid providers up to 100% reimbursement.
