Senior Mallory Valburg of Jones County was named first-team all-state in Class B, among the all-state selections named Thursday by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Valburg, who led the Coyotes to the program’s first state tournament appearance since 2015, averaged a double-double with 18.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Valburg will play collegiately at Dakota Wesleyan.
Valburg’s Jones County teammate Jadyn Jensen was named to the second team. Jensen averaged 17.8 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. Also on the second team is Sully Buttes senior center Lydia Hill. Hill averaged a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Chargers to a first state tournament berth in five years.
Three Central South Dakota players made the third team. Junior Stevie Wittler of Sully Buttes averaged 15 points and 4 assists a game. Skyler Volmer, the Lyman junior guard, averaged 18.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Senior Jessy Jo VanDer Werff of Gregory averaged 15.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
