BRANDON – Harrisburg and Tea Area won girls state titles and Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Christian were the boys winners Saturday in the SDHSAA Soccer State Championships at Brandon Valley High School.
AA Girls – Harrisburg 8, Mitchell 1
Jaylee Hofer scored four goals as Harrisburg (17-1) dominated from the start in the Tigers’ second straight title game win.
Hailee Christensen, Ella Walton, Ella Weide and Brynn Skogen also scored for Harrisburg in the final game for Eric Christensen as the Tigers’ head coach. Eric Christensen had previously announced that he is stepping aside from his head coaching duties in order to follow his daughter Hailee’s collegiate career at South Dakota State.
Mia Mullenmeister scored the only goal for Mitchell (16-2), her 41st of the season. The Kernels made their first title game appearance after having never won a playoff game before this year.
AA Boys – Sioux Falls Lincoln 3, O’Gorman 2 (PK)
Camden Thomas scored the clinching goal in the fifth round of the penalty kick shootout for Lincoln (14-0-2), just after goalkeeper Henry Eckert made a big save for the Patriots.
Santiago Patino scored a tying goal for O’Gorman (13-2-2) late in the second 10-minute half of overtime after Ryder Syverson scored in the first half of overtime for Lincoln.
Patino scored for O’Gorman in the ninth minute before Syverson tied the game for Lincoln in the 70th minute.
A Girls – Tea Area 3, Groton Area 1
Tea Area won its second straight championship with three quick goals early in the second half.
Cate Giles scored on a penalty kick in the 46th minute for the game’s first goal for the Titans (12-3-2). Sage Hoffman and Kendra Nelson scored after that to give Tea Area a 3-0 lead.
Jerica Locke scored in the 71st minute for Groton Area (9-3-1).
A Boys – Sioux Falls Christian 4, Tea Area 2
Sioux Falls Christian (15-0-2) won its fourth straight championship behind goals from Brandt Griebel, Emerson Brazones, Vadim Striezhaus and Boston Gerdes.
Ivan Zamora and Gavin Reiners tallied for Tea Area (8-9)
