RAPID CITY – As happened in 2022, Warner and Chester will play for a championship Saturday after semifinal victories Friday in the SDHSAA Class B State Volleyball Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument. Warner stayed unbeaten and extended its winning streak to 58 matches with a win over Burke. Chester dispatched Castlewood.
Semifinals
Warner def. Burke, 25-16, 25-22, 25-11
Warner (39-0) continued their steady play and are one win away from a third consecutive state championship. Kyra Marcuson had 14 kills and four digs for the Monarchs. Lauren Marcuson had nine kills.
Emmie Hausmann had six kills for Burke (32-5), which was limited to 21 total kills.
Chester Area def. Castlewood, 25-13, 25-20, 25-21
Chester (32-2) was simply too much, as four players had at least 10 kills. Jacy Wolf had 12, Lily VanHal and Addison Bates scored 11 each and Emmerson Eppard notched 10. VanHal also served six aces.
For Castlewood (22-9), Presley Knecht had 12 kills and Emerson Carter scored 10.
Consolation
Wolsey-Wessington def. Gayville-Volin, 27-29, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21
Wolsey-Wessington (30-5) came back from dropping the first set. Kailynn Dorris hit 24 kills and served an ace for the Warbirds. Samara Clemente had 10 kills.
Maia Achen had 24 kills and 19 digs for Gayville-Volin (29-13).
Colman-Egan def. Faulkton Area, 12-25, 18-25, 25-10, 25-23, 19-17
