The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is leading a trade mission to Angola this week (Feb. 26-29, 2024) and with the support of the Beef Checkoff Program, U.S. Meat Export Federation Africa Representative Matt Copeland is participating.
Copeland notes that for U.S. beef, there are opportunities in Angola’s higher-end restaurant and hospitality sectors. But for a wider range of consumers, the Angolan market is well-positioned for growth in exports of underutilized U.S. beef cuts and beef variety meat. He says the U.S. beef industry’s reputation as a reliable supplier is an attractive selling point for Angolan importers.
USDA’s new Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP) specifically targets Africa. Copeland explains that when RAPP funding becomes available later this year, it could help build momentum for U.S. beef in a developing market like Angola.
In addition to meeting with importers from Angola, trade mission participants will also connect with buyers from neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo. More details on the trade mission are available here.
