The nursing simulation center at Capital City Campus in Pierre is getting a remodel thanks to a grant from Avera.
Lake Area Technical College President Tiffany Sanderson said the grant will provide improved high-tech equipment for Lake Area nursing students taking courses at Pierre. She said the Avera Learning & Simulation Center will give students hands-on experience in spaces that replicate real patient care scenarios.
Sanderson said the lab will feature advanced manikins, medical equipment and simulations that help prepare students with the professional skills and confidence needed to enter the workforce. She said Avera’s support will allow Lake Area to expand access to healthcare education in central South Dakota and provide nursing professionals for communities and facilities of all sizes.
The Avera Learning & Simulation Center will support high school outreach and tours, skills workshops, recruitment events and professional development for regional healthcare workers. Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre will also use the space for employee training across multiple health disciplines.
Shantel Krebs, Regional President and CEO of Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, said this new space allows them to create a simulation environment that strengthens both education and patient care in the Pierre area. She said by providing a shared space for students and Avera employees to learn, practice and innovate together, they’re are investing in the workforce of today and in highly skilled caregivers of tomorrow.
